UMKC Conservatory's Academy Awarded Prestigious NEA Grant
National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Rocco Landesman announced today that the UMKC Conservatory's Academy is one of 788 not-for-profit national, regional, state, and local organizations nationwide to receive an NEA Art Works grant. The Academy is recommended for a $65,000 grant for its Conservatory in the Schools program.
The 788 Art Works grants total $24.81 million and support the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts, and the strengthening of communities through the arts.
Conservatory Dean Peter Witte notes, "We're honored to be recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts, as recipient of an Art Works grant. Our Conservatory in the Schools programs support the vital work of arts educators in our schools. Picasso said 'every child is an artist.' This NEA grant will help us sustain the young artists in Kansas City's schools. Dr. Mara Gibson leads our Conservatory in the Schools program and spearheaded the grant process. As a result of Mara's vision, UMKC's Conservatory in the Schools program will have even greater impact."
