Joseph Genualdi Appointed Professor of Violin at the UMKC Conservatory


The Conservatory is pleased to announce that Joseph Genualdi joins the Conservatory as tenured Professor of Violin, fall, 2012.

One of the most gifted and versatile musicians of his generation, Joseph Genualdi is celebrated among the most prestigious chamber music organizations in the world. A highly sought-after teacher, he is an orchestral violinist of distinction, recording artist, and renowned soloist.

Mr. Genualdi began his training at an early age at Yale University and at the North Carolina School of the Arts. He is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music.

At age 22, Mr. Genualdi served as associate concertmaster of the San Francisco Symphony, a post he left to become a founding member of the award-winning Muir Quartet. With the Muir Quartet and pianist Jean Phillipe Collard, Mr. Genualdi won the Grand Prix du Disque, for the Frank Piano Quintet (EMI-Angel). He has performed extensively throughout North America and Europe, appearing at numerous distinguished festivals including Marlboro, Nimes (France), Spoleto (Italy), Cheltenham (GB), Bravo!Colorado, Angel Fire, Arkansas, Ravinia, Skaneanteles, and EuroArts Leipzig summer festivals.

Previously, Mr. Genualdi served on the faculties of Yale University, the University of Oregon, DePaul University, and California State University-Northridge. Most recently, he has been teaching at his alma mater, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

In his ongoing work as founding member of the Chicago Chamber Musicians (CCM), Mr. Genualdi has worked closely with many leading composers and performers. His recordings appear on the Music Master, Pickwick, EMI-Angel, Sony Classics, CRI, Albany, Naxos, Cedille, and Summit labels. In 2010 he performed with CCM colleagues in a recording of the Brahms Horn Trio and Clarinet Quintet, and in 2007 his recording with CCM of the chamber works of Mozart earned a Grammy nomination.
