Lee Hartman (DMA, Composition, 2009, MM, Composition, 2005) has been named artistic director of the Mid America Freedom Band, Kansas City, MO.

Hartman teaches at the University of Central Missouri, having previously taught at Park University, University of Delaware, and University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Hartman is currently the Editor-in-Chief of KCMetropolis.org and the President of the Simon Carrington Chamber Singers. He served as one of the guest conductors for the Spring 2012 concert and is looking forward to leading the band in its tenth anniversary season.

"I am delighted to work with the talented members of the Mid America Freedom Band. My years playing oboe with the Chester County Concert Band of Pennsylvania, among dedicated musicians from all walks of life, ages, and skill levels, shaped me profoundly. Those fond memories have stuck with me and I'm thrilled to see the same qualities in the MAFB membership. As we enter our 10th season, I hope to capitalize on our musical potential and become a fixture, not only for the LGBT community and our allies, but in the vibrant Kansas City arts scene as well. So come hear a concert, come watch a parade, or better yet, come out and play with us!" Hartman said.

Congratulations!
