Upcoming Events

Come jam with UMKC students and faculty during this fun and casual jam session. This is an open event, and minors are expected to be accompanied by an adult.

Piano Day registration

Day 1,Oct. 17

For high school pianists, including prospective music majors and minors. Spend a “day in the life” of a music major! Attend classes, have a lesson with piano faculty, and interact with guest artist Christopher Goodpasture.

Day 1 Event Schedule

  • 7:30-8 a.m. — Program check-in
  • 8 a.m.-12 p.m. — Classes/lessons
  • 12-1 p.m. — Lunch
  • 1-2 p.m. — Classes/lessons
  • 2-4 p.m. — Masterclass with Christopher Goodpasture
  • 5 p.m. — Play in a recital on a new Hamburg Steinway (family and friends welcome, no ticket required)

Day 2, Oct. 18

Join us for a workshop and masterclass with Christopher Goodpasture, designed for KCMTA and regional teachers and pre-college piano students.

Day 2 Event Schedule

  • 9-10:30 a.m. — Workshop in Grant Recital Hall with Christopher Goodpasture
  • 10:30 a.m.-12:20 p.m — Masterclass for precollege students (masterclass observation is open to the public)

UMKC Single Reed Day is a free event geared towards middle and high school clarinet and saxophone students studying in Missouri and Kansas. Events include general clinics for middle school students and clinics on all-district/all-state band audition materials for high school students. Clinicians include Dr. Jane Carl (clarinet), Professor Zach Shemon (saxophone), and others. The day will conclude with a concert featuring the UMKC Clarinet and Saxophone studios. Registration is required.

A one-day immersive experience for tuba and euphonium players featuring group warm-ups, sectionals with guest artists and UMKC graduate students, and large ensemble playing. Designed to build community, inspire young musicians, and provide a glimpse into collegiate-level music making at the UMKC Conservatory.

Participants should bring their own instrument and any accessories needed for playing. Music will be provided on site.

Event is open to all musicians. Any participant under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

The UMKC Trumpet Festival is a one-day event full of masterclasses and performances from guest artists. The guests this year include Wiff Rudd, Ashley Hall-Tighe with Ana Maria Otamendi, and the trumpet section from Kansas City Symphony (Julian Kaplan, Omri Barak, and Shea Kelsay). This event is made possible in part by the Muriel McBrien Kauffman Family Foundation and the International Trumpet Guild.

UMKC Conservatory Flute Day is an afternoon-long celebration of flute performance and learning featuring guest artist Christina Jennings, an internationally recognized flutist and professor celebrated for her commanding technique, luminous tone and deeply engaging musical presence. Known for her versatility as a soloist, chamber musician and educator, Jennings brings a career shaped by concerto appearances, premieres of new works and a passion for mentoring the next generation of artists.

The event includes a group warm-up led by UMKC Conservatory Flute Professor Dr. Terri Sánchez, two performances of Flute Theater by the UMKC Conservatory Flute Ensemble, a workshop led by Jennings, a recital with collaborative pianist Dan Velicer and a concluding masterclass with UMKC flutists. Designed for students, educators and community musicians, the day highlights artistry, inspiration and shared musical experience in Grant Hall.

Event is open to all musicians. Any participant under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
