Conservatory Welcomes Baritone Weston Hurt, Fall 2020

The UMKC Conservatory is pleased to welcome Weston Hurt as Assistant Professor of Voice, Fall 2020.

Baritone Weston Hurt is a performer recognized for his emotionally honest portrayals of characters both sympathetic and monstrous. Opera News has praised his performances as “gorgeous baritone, which is golden, weighty, and clear” and “faultless—stylistically on the money, dramatically committed, and displaying a vocalism that was perfectly even from the top to the bottom of his range.”

Weston has been heard in opera houses around the country including Houston Grand Opera, Seattle, Tulsa, Nashville, Portland, Virginia, and New York City Opera, as well as internationally with the Canadian Opera Company, Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Italy, Buenos Aires’ Teatro Colon, and Montevideo’s Teatro Solis.

He has presented master classes around the country including at Loyola University, Oklahoma State University, Lone Star College, University of Texas at Austin’s Butler Opera Center, UMKC Conservatory and Seattle Opera’s Summer Academy at Marrowstone. Various teaching positions over the past two decades have included Indiana University, Westminster Conservatory of Rider University, Southern Methodist University, University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, and a teaching residency at The University of Texas at Austin.
