Dr. Beach joins the UMKC Conservatory faculty in Fall 2023 having just completed the Ph.D. in Music Therapy from Florida State University. Beach has an extensive background working with mental health patients, as well as other patients in a wide variety of settings (e.g., elderly/nursing, children). His recently completed dissertation is titled “Exploring Therapeutic Techniques and Their Importance Among Music Therapists Working with Survivors of Trauma: A Mixed-Methods Analysis.” As the title suggests, Dr. Beach's research centers on music therapy patients who have experienced all forms of trauma, and he has published and presented on the topic at national level professional conferences. Dr. Beach also has a strong teaching background, which allows him to connect research and clinical experience in the classroom as he engages with the music therapy students, faculty, and the Kansas City community.
