Collin Vorbeck (he/him) is the Interim Chair of the Theatre Division and Associate Visiting Professor in the UMKC Conservatory. He holds a PhD in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts: Theatre from Texas Tech University and an MA in Theatre from UMKC. His research interests include critical theatre pedagogy and the intersections of cognitive studies and theatre performance. His dissertation partnered event schema theory with dramatic script analysis to develop a new approach to the meaning-making processes undertaken when bringing to the stage plays that subvert conventional dramaturgical structures. Dr. Vorbeck has presented research at several national conferences, including the Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) and the Mid-America Theatre Conference (MATC), where he recently finished his term as co-chair of the Pedagogy Symposium. Professionally, Dr. Vorbeck has worked extensively in a variety of capacities with the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival, appearing in several recent productions including Julius Caesar and Romeo and Juliet.
