About
Jane Carl, professor of clarinet at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance, is a native of Michigan and received her degrees from the University of Michigan. She has performed regularly with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra including a sabbatical replacement on bass clarinet in 1997–98, European tour and recordings as second clarinet in 1998–99, and as assistant principal clarinet in 1999–2003. Carl has been a member of the South Bend, Flint Symphony, Michigan Opera Theatre, and Kansas City Chamber Orchestras, and has performed with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, and the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. She was on the faculty of Notre Dame University, Hillsdale College, and Andrews University, and has taught at the University of Michigan. Carl is also a board member, artistic adviser, and clarinetist with Summerfest, Kansas City’s summer chamber music festival. In 2007, she performed in recital and gave a master class in Beijing at the China International Clarinet and Saxophone Festival. In July 2008, she was the host and artistic chair of ClarinetFest 2008, the annual conference of the International Clarinet Association, hosting 1,100 clarinetists on the UMKC campus for five days. Carl was a concerto soloist in August 2009 in Porto, Portugal at ClarinetFest.
