Keith Wymer currently serves as Adjunct Associate Professor of Double Bass at the UMKC Conservatory.
Now in his seventh season performing with the Kansas City Symphony, Keith has also appeared with the Britt Music Festival, New World Symphony, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Kansas City Ballet and various orchestras across the Midwest. Originally from Portland, Oregon, he also served for five seasons as Principal Bass of the Eugene Symphony.
As an orchestral bassist, Keith has been fortunate to share the stage with many of the world’s finest soloists and conductors, including personal favorites Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Emanuel Ax and Michael Tilson Thomas. He has appeared with the KC Symphony on several commercially released recordings, as well as on national and international TV and radio broadcasts. Most recently, he performed with the orchestra on its inaugural tour to Europe, including performances at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Philharmonie in Berlin and the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg.
Keith studied at the University of North Texas and Indiana University. His primary teachers were soloist Jeff Bradetich and former LA Philharmonic Principal Bass Bruce Bransby. He received additional guidance from Christopher Hanulik, William Clay and Jeffrey Kail. As a student, Keith was a fellowship recipient at the Aspen Music Festival & School, serving as Assistant Principal Bass of the Aspen Festival Orchestra. He also spent two summers performing with the National Repertory Orchestra and attended the National Orchestral Institute.
Keith lives in North Kansas City with his wife Victoria and their ever-expanding garden. He performs on a fine French instrument made circa 1890.
