About

Robert Beck serves as Chief Recording Engineer and Production Manager for the UMKC Conservatory. Bob has worked in professional audio for over two decades, and during that time has been involved in nearly every aspect of the business. He has engineered thousands of recordings, taught hundreds of students, and mixed live sound for countless performances ranging from lectures and solo recitals to full-scale professional musicals and rock concerts. He serves as Technical Director and Mix Engineer for the annual Mizzou International Composers’ Festival, working with contemporary chamber ensemble Alarm Will Sound at the beautiful Missouri Theatre in Columbia. After earning his MFA in Theatre Sound Design, Bob worked for six seasons as Chief Sound Engineer for Kansas City Repertory Theatre before accepting his current position at the Conservatory. His sound design for Sandra Asher’s play Across the Plains has been heard in 9 states. Bob also served as the Chief Engineer for the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival from 1994-2003 and has designed sound for the Coterie Theatre, the Unicorn Theatre, and Missouri Rep’s Second Stage. In 2007, Bob was the recipient of the prestigious Kauffman Conservatory Service Award. When he isn’t trying to keep up with the amazing faculty and staff at the Conservatory, he’s probably out working with one of the many professional music organizations and student ensembles he supports around the KC metro.
