Mario Raymond will be joining the Division of Theatre this year as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Lighting Design. Mario brings to the Conservatory a rather well-rounded skillset as both a Designer and Technician and we can’t wait for him to share this perspective with our students. Mario hails from the great state of Louisiana with credits at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Hope Summer Repertory Theatre, Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre, ETC, and holds degrees from University of Louisiana at Lafayette and Wayne State.
Mario Raymond is originally from Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, the Crawfish Capital of the World. Mario holds a BFA in Technical Theatre from University of Louisiana at Lafayette and a MFA in Technical Theatre emphasis in Lighting Design. His Wayne State credits are Dracula, James and the Giant Peach, and Legally Blonde. After graduating, Mario moved to Kansas City and started working at Lyric Opera of Kansas City as a Lighting Supervisor. He served as an Assistant Lighting Designer for 4 seasons working with lighting designers. Mario spends some of his summers designing at Hope Summer Repertory Theatre and Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre. Last summer, Mario was a recipient of Encore Michigan, Best Lighting Design of a Musical, The Color Purple. The last few years Mario has been working in the architecture world as a programmer of lighting controls systems, ie ETC. Mario has worked on some of the exterior lighting in downtown Kansas City and Overland Park.
