Composition Alum Nahyun Kim Wins Award, and More

The Conservatory is pleased to note that Nahyun Kim (composition, DMA, 2014) won the TEACH award (Teaching Excellence And College Honor) for creative, innovative, and excellent work in the classroom at Kansas City Kansas Community College. On March 9 there is a showcase/reception and Nahyun gives a presentation about her work. One of her peer nominators wrote, "Dr. Kim not only cares greatly for her students, staying overtime on many nights to accommodate them, she is one of the most intelligent and innovative teachers we have here at KCKCC. She combines this knowledge with a caring and nurturing side that makes her the favorite of many of her students.  She teaches piano at all levels as well as composition theory and is well able to take over any music history course.  In a field that requires much patience and understanding, she excels every semester. The institution as a whole, as well as all of her students, profits greatly by her hard and expertise."

Additionally, Nahyun's composition Hypochondriasis for Piano has been selected (from the over 680 submissions) for performance by pianist Minju Choi at the 2017 TUTTI Festival, Denison University, Granville, Ohio (Feb. 9–11, 2017). Nahyun gives a presentation about her works in the composers forum at the festival.  She received a Faculty Professional Development Fund, Kansas City Kansas Community College award to attend the 2017 TUTTI Festival.

Congratulations to Nahyun!
