Conservatory Composition Student Alex Williams Wins First Place in Competition

Alex Williams (composition, BM), a junior, won first place for his composition Visions and Fantasy in the 13th Annual Young Composers Competition, Websters Grove, MO, held at the Community Music School of Webster University (CMS) and sponsored by Arden and Harry Fisher. Alex's composition won in the Level Two category for students ages 17–21.

The winning works will be performed by St. Louis musicians from Equinox Chamber Players, members of the Perseid Quartet, and other area professionals at the Emerging Composers Concert, Saturday, March 25, 2017, 3 p.m. at the CMS Center.

"The student composers selected in this competition are among the best emerging young composers in the world," said Carol Commerford, director of the CMS. "We received submissions from all over the globe including the United States, Canada, China, England and Italy. It will be exciting to hear these amazing works performed by professional musicians in a concert setting and a first for some of these young composers."

Since 2004, the Young Composers Competition recognizes and encourages the efforts of those between the ages of 12 and 21 who are involved in the creative process of composing music.

Congratulations, Alex.
