The Conservatory is pleased to note that DMA composition and MM musicology student Derek Jenkins has won the American Prize in Composition for band/wind ensemble-student division, for his piece We Seven for wind ensemble. Derek wrote the piece for Dr. Joseph Parisi and the Conservatory Wind Ensemble.
Derek, who expects to graduate from the UMKC Conservatory in 2017, also holds degrees from Rice University (MM Composition, 2013) and the University of Missouri-Kansas City (BM Composition, BM Theory, 2010).
