Conservatory Alum Derek Jenkins Accepts Teaching Position in Arkansas

The Conservatory is pleased to announce that Derek Jenkins (DMA, music composition; MM, musicology, Graduate Certificate in College Teaching, 2017; BM music composition, BM, music theory, 2010) has accepted a tenure-track teaching position as Assistant Professor of Music in Theory/Composition at Arkansas State University, Jonesboro.

Jenkins's piece, We Seven, won the 2016 American Prize in Composition and in 2012, his piece, Eosphorus: The Morning Star, was selected as a winner of the National Band Association's Young Composer Mentor Project. Jenkins has received additional recognition from MMTA/MTNA, Red Note New Music Festival, MACRO, the UMKC Conservatory, the UMKC School of Graduate Studies, ASCAP, the Harry S. Truman Good Neighbor Award Foundation, and at conferences and festivals across the U.S. and abroad.
