Conservatory Alum Charles Bruffy Wins Sinofian Award

The UMKC Conservatory is pleased to announce that Charles Bruffy (MM choral conducting, 1988), Artistic Director and conductor of the Kansas City Chorale, has been awarded the prestigious Phi Mu Alpha Signature Sinfonian Award. Previous recipients include Luciano Pavarotti, Branford Marsalis, Duke Ellington, Sergei Rachmaninoff, and Robert Shaw.

Founded in 1898 at the New England Conservatory of Music, Phi Mu Alpha is an American collegiate fraternity for men with a special interest in music. The Signature Sinfonian award is conferred upon Sinfonian members “who have achieved a high standard of accomplishment in their field or profession, thereby bringing honor to Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.”

Charles Bruffy also has multiple Grammy nominations and wins as director of the Kansas City Chorale, as do alumni members of the group.

Congratulations, Charles!
