Music Theory Professor David Thurmaier Publishes New Article

The Conservatory is pleased to announce that David Thurmaier, Associate Professor of Music Theory and Chair of Composition, Music Theory and Musicology has published his article "'Perhaps I’d better go back to Mr. Jadassohn': Charles Ives’s Harmonic Training in Late Nineteenth-Century America" in Theoria, (Vol. 23), a journal of Texas A&M University Press.

Theoria is an annual peer-reviewed journal on all aspects of the history of music theory. It includes critical articles representing the current stage of research, and editions of newly discovered or mostly unknown theoretical texts with translation and commentary. Analytical articles on recent or unknown repertory and methods are also published, as well as review articles on recent secondary literature and textbooks. Back issues are available from Texas A&M University Press.

Dr. Thurmaier has received a Fulbright Scholar award for 2017–18. He will teach and research in Brno, Czech Republic at Masaryk University during the Spring 2018 semester.
