Fountain City Brass Band, which is directed by faculty Joseph Parisi, and which includes many Conservatory students, alumni, and faculty, has won the 2018 North American Brass Band Championship, held in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This year the band was lead by substitute director David King, as Dr. Parisi's UMKC duties kept him from traveling with the group.
Fountain City Academy Band came in second in the "Third Section" competition and the Fountain City Honor Band came in first in the "Youth Section". Fountain City Youth Band was second in the "Youth Open Section."
