Composition Student Bo Li Wins Composition Award

The UMKC Conservatory is pleased to note that composition DMA student Bo Li's large orchestra work Sleeping in the Wind was awarded second prize of the Toru Takemitsu Composition Award 2018. For this year’s edition, 143 scores were submitted from 40 countries.  The juror was Unsuk Chin, a South Korean composer based in Berlin. Bo Li received an honorarium.

Unsuk Chin commented on Bo Li's composition, noting, "This is very musical, vivid and idiomatic orchestral music with great contrasts and a developed sense of dramatic line. It has an immediate visual impact, the composer has a keen ear and full control over what he writes. The use of the orchestra is imaginative, both in terms of details and the macroscopic dimension."

Congratulations, Bo Li!
