The Conservatory is pleased to announce that Dawn Iwamasa will join the UMKC Conservatory, Fall 2019 as Assistant Professor of Music Therapy, following a national search.
Dawn Iwamasa brings significant and diverse experience in Music Therapy clinical settings, university teaching experience, and a solid base of research presentations and publications. Ms. Iwamasa is currently teaching a wide range of core courses in Music Therapy while completing doctoral work at Florida State University where her dissertation research focuses on music therapy services and protocols in pain management. Previously, Iwamasa served on the faculties of Marylhurst University (OR), and Arizona State University. She is an active researcher, having presented her work in national conferences and refereed publications.
Iwamasa has served in leadership roles and committees at the state, regional and national levels of the American Music Therapy Association. She is the recipient of numerous awards including the Florida State University College of Music Academic Leadership Award, and the Changemaker Award for Music Therapy Advocacy presented by the American Music Therapy Association. A native of Hawaii, she earned the Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance and the Master of Arts in Music Therapy from the University of the Pacific (CA).
