Composition Student Lan Shi Wins Commission

The Conservatory is pleased to note that MM composition student Lan Shi's work, Xizhou Song for piano trio was commissioned by the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music and was performed, March 20, 2019, in Quzhou, Zhejiang province.

Lan Shi notes, Xizhou Song is taken from the famous phrase in the Southern Dynasty Yuefu, “The Southern winds know me, blow dreams to Xizhou." The theme of the folk song temperament is divided into several moments, appearing in different musical backgrounds, growing, running through, until the end is fully presented.

The piece was performed by the Hangzhou Piano Trio, comprised of three professors at the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music: cello, Baojun Zhang, Professor of Cello Zhejiang Conservatory of Music and the chef of the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra; piano: Lu Tan, Professor of piano, Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, graduated from Universität der Künste Berlin; violin: Shuai Shi, Professor of violin, Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, graduated from the Eastman School of Music. This concert was supported by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture 2018-2019 Research Project Funding.
