Composition Prof. Zhou Long's Madame White Snake To be Staged Again

Dr. Zhou Long, the UMKC Conservatory's Bonfils Distinguished Research Professor of Composition, won the Pulitzer Prize in Music in 2011 for his opera Madame White Snake. It was his first opera. In their citation the jurors described the work as "a deeply expressive opera that draws on a Chinese folk tale to blend the musical traditions of the East and the West."

Madame White Snake will be restaged in 2022 as part of a three-year artistic collaboration between the The Beijing Music Festival and Paris' Opéra Comique, from 2020 to 2022

Congratulations!
