UMKC Conservatory alum and Latin Grammy winner Andrés Salguero (GRCT, education, ’11; DMA, clarinet performance ’11), who, with his wife and partner Christina Sanabria perform as the musical duo 123 Andrés, has published his first book with Scholastic. 123 Andrés performs music for children and families throughout the United States and Latin America.
The new book with Scholastic, Hello Friend/Hola Amigo, also comes with a musical EP, Hola, Amigo, Songs of Friendship. The book is an ode to friendship in a diverse world.
The book released on August 4 and has received critical acclaim. Kirkus Reviews notes "Sweet, never saccarine...A nice addition to the bilingual musical shelf." School Library Journal writes, "Hola, Amigo encourages readers to welcome everyone into their life regardless of what they look like or what language they speak. Bright, acrylic illustrations featuring a diverse array of children and adults help further the message while complementing the text."
