Conservatory Composition Students on the Move

UMKC Conservatory composition students have been accepted to prestigious festivals around the United States.

Devin Cholodenko (first year MM composition student) will be at the Mostly Modern Festival Composition Program at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY in summer 2020, to have a new chamber work premiered by the American Modern Ensemble (AME) and an orchestral work read by the American Modern Orchestra (AMO), as well as a composition master class and private lessons given by distinguished faculty composers.

Yunfei Li (first year DMA composition student) will be at the Atlantic Music Festival Composition Program at Colby College in Waterville, Maine in summer 2020, to have a new chamber work premiered by professional musicians, as well as a composition master class and private lessons by distinguished faculty composers.
YunFei Li has also received a $1,000 grant from the UMKC Women’s Council to attend the Northwestern University New Music Conference (NUNC!) with her saxophone quartet work The Shape of Water for saxophone quartet, which has been selected to perform at the conference (4/24–26/2020) in the Bienen School of Music at the NWU in Evanston, IL.
Laura Whitney-Johnson (currently MM first year composition student) has received a $2,300 GAF Fellowship from the UMKC Women’s Council to attend the 2020 New Music on the Point summer music festival in Vermont, where she will have her new chamber work premiered and recorded by professional musicians.
