Dr. Xinyan Li's (DMA 2012) guzheng concerto Awakening Light, commissioned by the China Now Music Festival, received its world premiere Oct. 16, 2021 at Fisher Center at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. Conducted by maestro Jindong Cai, guzheng solo by Yixin Wang, performed by The Orchestra Now, this work represents humanity’s spiritual growth when facing the long-lasting, unprecedented pandemic. It is the first guzheng piece to use the modulation bridges invented by suona virtuoso and instrument inventor Yazhi Guo for richer musical expressions.
