Conservatory Student Nina Cherry Receives Presser Foundation Undergraduate Scholar Award

UMKC Conservatory student Nina Cherry (Music Theory, BM, percussion) who is president-elect of the Conservatory Student Association has been chosen by Conservatory faculty to receive the prestigious Presser Foundation Undergraduate Scholar Award for the 2021–2022 academic year. Recipients of this prestigious award receive a significant monetary award to be used at their discretion—this may be applied toward tuition, housing costs and other expenses normally incurred in pursuit of a degree or for musical advancement opportunities not normally provided in a university or conservatory setting.

Ms. Cherry was selected for this award based on her academic and musical achievements at UMKC during her first three years of study and will be known as a Presser Scholar. Upon receiving this award Ms. Cherry noted, “I feel honored to receive this award. I am grateful to have such a great support network at the Conservatory, and to have professors that are so invested in my success. This award will be much needed as I, a first-generation college student, apply to grad schools next year. I also plan to take private lessons with some of my favorite jazz vibraphonists over the summer with this funding.”

Congratulations, Nina Cherry!
