Conservatory Bridges is a scholarship program that provides exceptional young performing arts students with the intensive instruction and performance experience necessary to prepare for auditions into selective university programs such as UMKC Conservatory. While quality performing arts education can take place through ensemble instruction at the pre-collegiate level, the ability to reach the highest levels of artistry in music almost always depends on individual nurturing through one-on-one lessons beginning at an early age.
Students admitted into the Bridges program will receive weekly group classes and/or private lessons with the UMKC Conservatory Academy. Once admitted into the Bridges Program, students will be invited to continue each year until they graduate high school, as long as all program requirements are met.

Lessons usually take place at the student’s school during their rehearsal time but can also take place before/after school. Instructors will work directly with school ensemble directors to set up lesson times. If the student prefers to meet in the evening or on the weekend, then lessons will need to take place at UMKC. Digital lessons are also available based on the student’s preference.
All group classes will take place on the UMKC Campus at either Grant Hall or the James C. Olson Performing Arts Cetner.
The Bridges program will provide a materials budget of up to $100 per year, per student. All material requests must come from the student’s instructor and be ordered via the Academy office.
At the beginning of the school year, students will receive a calendar of all events/deadlines and a Bridges Handbook. All students must take part in a performance at least once a semester. Performance opportunities vary from program to program and semester by semester. Please refer to the Bridges calendar for details.
Student progress will be monitored weekly by their instructor and reported to the Academy office. At the end of every semester students will participate in a final or jury. At the conclusion of each semester, students will also receive a progress report that details their progress, goals, strengths and areas that need attention. If a student continues with the Bridges Program until they graduate high school, they will receive a framed certificate.
Admitted students are eligible for special opportunities throughout their time in the program.
