Vocal Studies at UMKC is devoted to training your voice and enriching your relationship with music as a performer. You’ll have the opportunity to study the art of vocal performance with elite faculty, while taking advantage of studying in the heart of Kansas City and its creative communities.
The program offers degrees from undergraduate to doctoral, giving you the freedom to choose the focus of your musical education. In addition to the solo recitals you’ll present during your studies, you can take advantage of additional performance experiences through two main-stage opera productions each year, opera workshop scenes and one-act operas; choral ensemble concerts; workshops with guest conductors; and master classes with world-renowned singers including Sherrill Milnes, Carol Vaness, Amy Burton, Joyce DiDonato, Stanford Olsen, Diana Soviero and others.
Students from the Vocal Studies program have been semi-finalists in the Metropolitan Opera Auditions and have participated in some of this country's most prestigious Young Artist Programs including Santa Fe, Glimmerglass, Central City and Wolf Trap. You’ll also have opportunities with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City that will ready you for your professional singing career.
